The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, has reportedly expressed concern about the direction of the war between the United States and Iran, while explaining that Washington needs to find a way out of the conflict.
According to alleged reports from people familiar with the internal discussions of the US military leadership, General Caine has been privately stating in recent weeks that continuing to escalate attacks on Iran could drag the US deeper into a war that could be difficult to control.
Caine, who is the US President's top military advisor, is said to have conveyed this view to senior government and military leaders, emphasizing the importance of having a long-term strategy to end US involvement in the conflict.
The concern is said to be related to the risk of the conflict continuing to expand and involve other parts of the Middle East, which could increase the threat to US troops as well as Washington's interests in the region.
