Speaking about the decision, Trump said the move was reached after the parties involved agreed on the initial basis of an agreement aimed at reducing long-standing tensions between the United States and Iran.

According to Trump, one of the key elements of the agreement is the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz, which is a vital route for global oil transportation, as well as the removal of the threat associated with Iran's nuclear program.

The President said that, despite the military preparations that had been made, he considered it prudent to suspend the operation for now to allow time for negotiations to be completed and to prevent the serious consequences that would result from new wars in the Middle East.
