Iran has said it has carried out several ground operations in northern Iraq, targeting individuals and groups it claims are involved in espionage and collaborating with US and Israeli intelligence agencies.
Iranian Brigadier General Mojtaba Jafari, an advisor to the Supreme Commander of the Iranian Armed Forces, said that the Iranian Army's 23rd Brigade has carried out a total of 14 ground operations in the Sulaymaniyah and Erbil regions of Iraq in recent weeks.
According to Jafari, the operations targeted militant groups allegedly seeking to secede from Iran as well as their allies located within the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
